Matthew Zheng Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we share the unexpected passing of Matthew Li Zheng on August 14, 2024. Matt was an amazing and loving friend, brother and son whose presence has touched us all. He is survived by his parents, Ms. Diane Li, Mr. Haoyi Zheng, and his brother Jonathan Zheng.
Born and raised in
Ellicott City, Maryland, on July 17, 1999, Matt was a cherished member of our community. After graduating from Marriotts Ridge High School in 2017, he went on to graduate from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 2023 where he found his passion for Computer Science. There, he used his skills and volunteered his time to support Baltimore City schools to improve the computer systems and provide IT support.
In his 25 years with us, Matt has fostered a passion for many things - including a love for music, animals, games, and mentoring students in his community. Matt participated in many community music programs, including the annual Tuba Christmas Festival in Baltimore and the All State Band Summer Camp hosted by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. He was involved in music mentorship and tutored students across the county. As a talented musician himself, Matt shared his love for music and the performing arts with others. His mentorship was particularly evident during his time with the All State Band Summer Camp and OrchKids. After all, Matt truly believed that "music could save lives". His mentorship even extended outside of music through his time working with students at C2 Education. Matt also held a soft spot for animals. He loved spending time with and caring for all the animals in his life. His joy, playfulness, and gentleness when he was around animals was always evident, especially with his rescue dog, Luna. Luna and Matt shared an inseparable bond. He taught her many tricks - some of which only he could get her to perform - and loved to take her to the dog park often.
These are only some of the many things that made Matt so loved. Matt was patient, deeply kind, and always willing to help those around him. His quiet, steadfast, and unwavering care for others was cherished by all, and we will miss him dearly. We hope that Matt's influence will live on through some of the things he cared most for.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the fund below to honor Matt's legacy. Any funds raised will be contributed towards OrchKids, a program dedicated to improving access to youth music education in Baltimore, a place Matt used to volunteer at. Funds will also be allocated towards a bench in Matt's memory for his local community dog park where he loved to take his dog, Luna. More information about these causes can be found at the link below.
Thank you for helping us honor Matt's legacy. We know that his light carries on the brightest in those he loved and loved him.
