On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, Mrs. Mattie ‘Rebecca’ Wilder Vickery, age 82, passed away peacefully at her home on Deep Creek Road in Dewy Rose, GA. Her final days were spent surrounded by her devoted family in the home that she and her husband of 65 years, James Herbert “Jimmy” Vickery, built and raised their devoted family in.

One of ten children, Rebecca was born in Elbert County, GA on March 7, 1943, to Clarence Leonard Wilder and Ruby Jane Anderson Wilder.

As long as her health permitted, she was a devoted and faithful member of Deep Creek Baptist Church. Rebecca was a member of the church choir, Sunday school teacher, vacation bible school director, and WMU member for many years. Blessed with a servant’s heart, she could always be found active at the church.

In her spare time, Rebecca enjoyed reading and working in her flower gardens. She never missed an opportunity to attend sporting events for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Above all, her family was her greatest accomplishment. Rebecca spent her life caring for and nourishing them, creating fond memories that will last a lifetime. From teaching them how to make biscuits and her famous chicken casserole, to allowing them to drive around the yard in her car, there was nothing they couldn’t talk their Nona into. There was never a birthday that went unnoticed, and celebrations and family meals was always top priority for her family.

In addition to her beloved husband, Jimmy, she is survived by her daughters: Debbie Shirley of Bowman, GA and Sharon (Greg) Bunch of Tignall, GA; son, Kevin (Monica) Vickery of Elberton, GA; grandchildren: Josh (Stephanie) Simmons, Ethan (Miranda) Shirley, Steven Bunch, Bridgett (Dricq) Johnson, and Morgan (Truett) Floyd; and the apples of her eyes, her great-grandchildren: Ellie, Skyler, Jaxton, Aspen, Bryson, Cheyenne, Ezra, Lane, Dallas, CJ, Alaya, MJ, Paisley, Eleanor, Henry, and Clara. She also leaves behind her beloved siblings: Betty Looney, J.R. (Joann) Wilder, Juanita Scruton, Virginia Richey, Maggie Harris, and David Wilder; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her sons-in-law: T. Randal Shirley and Ronnie Johnson; and siblings: Melether Fleming, Ima Jean Raines, and Stella Wilson.

The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to Jessica Lunsford of Bristol Hospice for her devoted care and love, as well as Sheri Hendricks who was Rebecca’s devoted caregiver.

The family is at the residence and will receive friends on Thursday, April 3, from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.

Funeral services celebrating Rebecca's life will be held on Friday, April 4, at 3:00p.m. at Deep Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Terry Meeks and Tim Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Larry Brady, Michael Hewell, Ronnie Adams, Greg Vickery, Brent Carey, and Donnie Cordell honored as pallbearers.

Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in her memory to Deep Creek Baptist Church, 2335 Nickville Road, Dewy Rose, GA 30634
