Cherished Mother & “Granny”, Maureen Sybil Carroll, passed away on July 21, 2025 at the age of 73, surrounded by her dedicated family.
Chicago native and Alumni of Morgan Park High School, Maureen married her high school sweetheart soon after graduating and started a family of her own. She spent many years in Lockport, IL, raising her two daughters, Kerie Lynn & Kathleen Marie; prior to relocating to Biloxi, MS with her husband Tom; who she shared 52 adventurous years with. They had a marriage full of surprises, lessons, challenges, growth, and battles, but most importantly unwavering commitment and love.
Maureen, playfully referred to as “Moe”, above all; credited the beautiful life she led to her 28-year friendship with Bill W. Her passion was taking AA meetings in to jails and prisons and she always had a gaggle of sponsees. She "ratted the roads" all over the coast going to functions. She struggled with learning to Love herself, but found peace and joy through her service, through the commitment and love she shared with God and her fellowship. This was not only her way of life, but also a place she enjoyed spending her free time with treasured friends.
Maureen had many talents; a numbers wiz, dancing queen, pantry Tetris extraordinaire; but the best was easily her hug! A hug unlike any other, she would always greet you with a sweet “hey baby” and a hug so tight you’d feel enveloped in comfort and security. Anyone who knew Maureen knew the joy of her smile!
She was always piddling around, planting flowers in her patio garden, organizing and in search of a “good deal”.
Moe also enjoyed time relaxing in the sun. Her favorite spot to sneak away to was Grasshopper Island. Here, we can visit in years to come and feel her spirit walking beside us.
Maureen Sybil is preceded in death by parents, Aldred Wayne and Elizabeth Jane (Quinlisk); husband, Thomas Louis Carroll; her sister, Anne Cecile Maxham; and her brother, William Charles Maxham (Buddy).
Her memory will be carried on in those who survive her; daughters, Kerie (Michael) Whitaker and Kathleen (Brian) Grskovich, as well as her grandchildren, Danielle (Jonathan) Watters, Randi Whitaker (Adian), Trevino Fukar, Thomas (Alyssa) Whitaker, Morgan Fukar (Alec); great grandchildren, Jensen, Sloane, Éowyn, as well as great grandchildren to be, Carter Michael Whitaker and baby Watters, her sister, Karen Rossiter- Kulver (Maxham); and brother, Brian Maxham; as well as many many nieces, nephews and countless extended family members.
The ripple of her loss will travel farther than the eye can see. In her honor, we will recover from this loss and celebrate her in all of our affairs!
Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is not promised, today we celebrate the time we shared with “Moe”.
Celebration of life to be announced at a later date.
