Maureen Dollard Smith was born on April 21, 1936 in London, England. At the age of 3, due to World War 2, her mother sent her off to Ireland to live with relatives for her safety. After two long years, she was reunited with her mother who decided to move to America. She grew up in Manhattan and quickly acclimated to her new environment. She frequently attended Irish dances, where she met Feihin, her future husband, who had immigrated from Ireland. They married and had two boys, Kevin & Eric. She was blessed with a caring daughter-in-law Audrey, and three grandchildren, Marren, Kieran and Sean.
After her children had grown, she decided to enter the workforce. While working full time she pursued her education and received her BA, May 1985 and masters in public admin May 1990.
She loved her career and often spoke of the people at St Vincent Hospital and later, Columbia Presbyterian. She made many friends and those friendships still continue today.
For the past 40 years she was a beloved resident of 2390, in Riverdale. She was known for her spirit and unwavering love for her community, family and St. Gabriels church.
One of her favorite times of year was summer, where she temporarily moved to Manasquan, NJ. She was surrounded by her NJ friends and had many, many visitors each year.
Maureen will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love and kindness will live on through her family, friends, and the many neighbors who came to know her as a fixture in their community.
Reposing Monday, July 22 from 3 – 7:00 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Ave. The funeral mass will be held Tuesday, July 23 at 10:00 am at St. Gabriel's Church followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.

I remember Maureen from Shervier Nursing Home, where she used to volunteer with her good friend Betty, whom I affectionately called "mom" because I loved her like a mother. Betty is also no longer with us, and I hope they reunite and continue their friendship. Maureen will be dearly missed. Rest in peace.

Maureen was a long term,
true blue friend to my mom, Betty.
She was a lovely and kind soul.
I thought of her today for some reason and decided to look her up and I found this obituary.
Perhaps she was letting me know that she and my mom are back together again in heaven. REST IN PEACE xo Lisa
