Maureen Anne Stenback, 77 of Central Lake, passed away Monday, December 5, 2022 after a brief battle with cancer. She was born May 4, 1945, in Windsor, Ontario the daughter of Gordon and Kathleen (Leaver) Walsh.
Maureen graduated from Oak Park High School and Eastern Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in Education. She retired from Swartz Creek High School after many years of dedicated teaching in the English department. She continued to challenge the minds of many young people in Antrim County as a favorite substitute teacher up until just a month ago.
Maureen loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed being on the lake with them and taking boat rides too. She was known for her immaculate lawn and could often be found riding her lawn tractor on a beautiful sunny day. She enjoyed her flower gardens, reading, and doing crossword puzzles too.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Julie (Mark) Gould, son-in-law Scott McManus, daughter Leta (Michael) Essenburg, grandchildren Daniel (Olivia) Stenback, Kaela McManus, Victoria Nagy, Jacob McManus, Amanda Groters, Megan Groters, three great grandchildren, sister Mary Lou (Robert) Gleason, brother Robert Walsh, brother-in-law Chuck Stenback and sister-in-law Lenore Stenback.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, William “Bill”, daughter Kate McManus and brother-in-law Thomas Stenback.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 17, at 12 Noon at Church In The Hills with Rev. David Ramage officiating and the family receiving friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service. The family will also receive friends Friday, December 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
Memorial contributions in her memory can be given to Church In the Hills or the Central Lake District Library.
