Maureen Elizabeth (Murphy) Tessier, a longtime resident of Shelburne, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at the age of 85. After two years of declining health, "Mimi" as everyone called her, died peacefully surrounded by family.
She was born in Springfield, MA on June 16, 1939, the daughter of Edmund Joseph Murphy (EJ) and Rosella Juve Murphy (Dolly). She was the oldest of three children (Toddy and Bunny). The family moved to Burlington in 1944. She graduated from Mount St. Mary's Academy and then from Georgetown University (BSN), class of 1960. She completed her master's degree from St. Michaels College (1987). She met her husband, Louis Clement Tessier, while they both were attending high school, and married on September 3rd, the year she graduated college. They eventually resided in Shelburne where they raised three sons, Stephen, Gregory, and Louis II (Trey).
She began her nursing career at Bishop DeGoesbriand Hospital. Later, Mimi was Executive Director of Vermont Health Care Review, a physician sponsored peer-review organization. She also served on the board of the (VNA) Visiting Nurse Association. She then worked as a case manager for Liberty Mutual until she retired.
Time spent together was a high priority in this close-knit family. Starting in her early years on Spruce St. in Burlington to the family's camp on Lake Champlain in North Ferrisburgh, continually hosting large gatherings with extended family and friends. Later in life, Mimi enjoyed learning to paint with brother Toddy, sister Bunny and many friends. She and Louis loved to travel. They especially enjoyed their annual August trip to Saratoga and the many family reunions. Her sweet gentle smile and incredible pleasant disposition always ensured a fun relaxing time. Her biggest joys in life were family and lifelong friendships that she cherished, especially with Pam Terrien and Donna Pizzagalli.
She was predeceased by her husband Louis on Sept. 25, 2014, and brother Todd Murphy of Burlington.
She is survived by her three sons: John Stephen "Steve" and wife, Rocio (Milla), their daughter, Jacqueline Rosella of Bridgeport, CT, and son, Timothee Joseph and his wife Stephanie (Mack) of Trumbull, CT; Gregory Scott "Greg" of Flagstaff, AZ; Louis II "Trey" of Enfield, CT. She is also survived by her dear sister Bunny Barry of Cocoa Beach, FL, sister in-law Jane Christie Murphy of Burlington, and her brother-in-law Timothee (Tim) Tessier of Nashville, TN. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and their extended families.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Shelburne on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 11 a.m. followed by a celebration of life.
