Maurice Lee Etchison

September 23, 1938 ~ August 23, 2025

Maurice Lee Etchison, 86, Marion, passed away at 3:14 pm on Saturday, August 23, 2025, in Fairmount. He was born in Elwood, Indiana, on Friday, September 23, 1938, to Willard and Jessie (Waymire) Etchison. On October 29, 2009, he married Mina Ingram, and she survives.

Maurice graduated from Mt Summit High School 1956 and was a member of Grace Community Church where he absolutely loved attending "Cowboy Church". He was also a member of HARF (Hoosier Auto Racing Fans) and the USAC (United States Auto Club). After high school, Maurice was drafted into the Army in 1961 and served as a military policeman. He re-enlisted in August of 1967 and transferred to Fort Benjamin Harrison Golf Course and was a military grounds keeper there until retirement. As an avid racing fan, he and Mina traveled to many states for races and made many friends on their travels. When the races were winding down, they started camping at their permanent campsite at Hidden Lake Resort. He made numerous friends at the campsite and enjoyed his turtle speed golf cart ride around the place.

Survivors include his wife, Mina Jo Etchison of Marion; stepdaughters, Pam (Tom) Chaffin of Sweetser, Karen (Scot) Jones of Columbia City; stepson, Brad (Lori) Ingram of Larwill; 8 step grandchildren; 19 step great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Susan Flynn; nephews and nieces, Rick Etchison, Shellie Etchison, Lisa Felver, Todd Flynn; dog, Scooter; and special friends, Chuck and Brenda Fleetwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Jessie Fay Etchison; his siblings; and Scottie-dog, Toby.

The family will receive visitors from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Maurice's life will begin at 3:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Tom Mansbarger officiating.
