Maurice C. Hellebuyck Sr.

Maurice Cyril Hellebuyck Sr., age 85, of Macomb Township, Michigan, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in Utica, Michigan, he lived a full and meaningful life devoted to hard work, simple joys, and the people he cherished most. A proud father of five and beloved grandfather to nine, his greatest happiness came from time spent with his family and friends.

He worked for many years as a truck driver with Messina Trucking Company, where his dedication and strong work ethic were admired by all who knew him. Yet his true passion was farming, a calling that reflected his love of the land and the satisfaction of honest labor.

Outside of work, he found joy in the outdoors - whether hunting, fishing, or tending to his garden and yard. He also loved playing cards, especially euchre, where his competitive spirit and laughter brought friends and family together around the table.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Clara Hellebuyck and his eldest daughter, Karen Marie Hellebuyck, whom he continued to love and miss every day.

He is survived by his four children, Maurice Hellebuyck Jr. (Cheryl), Susan Leidlein, Michael Hellebuyck (Amy) and Amy Cardinale (Kevin), and nine grandchildren, Sara, Sabryn, Alyssa, Holden, Mallory, Kara, Landon, Averie and Hudson. He also leaves behind his two sisters, brothers-in-law, many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.

In addition to his devotion to family and farming, he gave back to his community. As a Constable for Macomb Township, he served as a long-time volunteer firefighter, earning the honor of Firefighter of the Year in 1981 for his professional excellence and abundant heroism. He was also a faithful church usher for over 60 years at St. Isidore Catholic Church. His commitment to helping others and serving with integrity left a lasting impact on those around him.

He will be remembered for his kindness, his humor, and the deep love he held for his family. His legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the traditions he passed down, and the countless memories shared with those fortunate enough to know him.

Friends and family will gather to celebrate Maurice's life with a visitation at the Wm Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Road (3 Blks E. of Van Dyke) Utica, Thursday, December 11, 202,5, from 2-8 pm with a St. Isidore Ushers and K of C Council #7200 Rosary at 7 pm.

Maurice will lie in state on Friday, December 12, 2025, 9:30 am at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 18203 23 Mile Road ( at Romeo Plank Road ), Macomb Township, until the time of mass 10:00 am
