MAURICE A. "MOE" KING OBITUARY
Scarborough, Maine – Maurice Arnold "Moe" King passed away at home on June 14, 2025 at the age of 81 following a courageous battle with metastatic lung cancer.
Born Maurice Arnold Roy on December 28, 1943, in Old Town, Maine, Moe was the youngest child and only son of Francis Leon and Anna Bernice (Madore) Roy. His father later changed the family surname to King, an English translation of the French name Roy.
Moe was the cherished little brother of older sisters Lillian R. (Moore), Delcena M. (Blaisdell) and Gloria A. (Jacobs).
Moe attended Catholic school as a boy and graduated from Old Town High School, Class of 1962. He is described in his senior yearbook by classmates as: "Always at hand when a chauffeur is needed. Lends a helping hand to all. Well-liked by all." Generosity, reliability, and kindness remained central to who he was throughout his life.
Moe was a lifelong car enthusiast and was passionate about driving. These shaped both his hobbies and career. He loved showcasing his red with black vinyl top 1970 Chevy Nova Super Sport at swap meets, and recently added a beautiful turquoise and white 1954 Chevy Bel Air to his collection. Professionally, Moe was an over-the-road truck driver, working for H.E. Sargent, St. Johnsbury Trucking and Irving Oil. In retirement he continued his love of the open road, driving the East Coast annually between his home in Maine and his winter residence in Port Charlotte, Florida.
Moe married Jane A. Furlong on July 31, 1982, in Maine. They remained lovingly devoted to one another until her passing on May 21, 2004. He later married Susan J. Clark on June 21, 2008 in her hometown of Waits River, Vermont. Their marriage was filled with love and companionship until Susan's death on January 15, 2019.
Moe is survived by his sister Gloria Jacobs; stepdaughter Michelle Rochette, daughter of late wife Susan; step-granddaughter Megan Juenker; Gloria Herrick, David Moore and Christopher Moore, children of Lillian and Alton Moore; Mark, Dean, and Jeffrey Blaisdell, sons of Delcena and Gene Blaisdell; Rodney, Wayne, Steven, Stuart, and Brian Jacobs, sons of Gloria and Stanley Jacobs; Elaine Tomlinson, Suzanne Clark, Beverly Blais, Marcia Kenworthy, and Craig Clark, sisters-in-law and brother-in-law through late wife Susan.
Moe was predeceased by parents Francis Leon and Anna Bernice King; wives Jane and Susan; sister and brother-in-law Lillian R. and Alton L. Moore; sister and brother-in-law Delcena M. and Eugene F. Blaisdell; brother-in-law Stanley G. Jacobs; niece Frances Eldridge, daughter of Lillian and Alton Moore, father- and mother-in-law Howard and Janett Furlong; mother-in-law Thelma Clark; and brothers-in-law Simeon Blais, Gene Tomlinson, Alan Clark and Marc Peach.
In addition, Moe will be lovingly remembered by dear friend Lorraine Cragin; friends and caregivers Katrina Melvin, and Albert and Martha Francoeur.
A memorial service for Maurice will be held at Brooklawn Cemetery in Portland on Friday, July 18 at 11:00 AM. Half of Moe's ashes will be buried in Portland with late wife Jane and the other half will be buried at the West Topsham Cemetery in Vermont with late wife Susan at a date and time to be determined.

Moe, remembering when we would race our cars around Old Town back in the day when we were young. Time goes by so fast. Rest in peace my old friend.
