Maurice Racine Obituary

Published by Ross Funeral Home on Dec. 6, 2013.
Maurice Racine passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 6, 2013. He was born on his family's farm on November 23, 1932 in Champlain, New York. Maurice loved his family and worked hard to be a good provider for his wife and his five children. He worked at Imperial Wall Coverings in Plattsburgh as a maintenance person and at Harris Graphics (Sheridan Iron Works) in Champlain as a Tool and Die Maker. Following the closure of Harris Graphics he worked for Commonwealth Home Fashions repairing sewing machines and for the Farm and Family Center in the parts department. He also ran his own machine shop business, serving the local farmers and other businesses that needed his expertise making new parts for their equipment. Although he never had any formal engineering education, he was self-thought in drafting and reading engineering drawings. Other than his passion for his family, he was an accomplished skier. He taught most of his children and grandchildren how to ski. His also spent countless hours researching the Racine family tree with his daughter, Christine. He was a meticulous note-taker and photograph collector relating to the family history. Maurice enjoyed being outdoors as often as he could and loved animals. Finally, he loved re-building Farmall tractors. To him there was no other tractor that was better than his Farmall tractors. Maurice was predeceased by his father and mother, Ulric and Blandine, his brothers and sisters, Arthur, Alfred, Allyre, Rene, Roland, Lorrette Favreau, Bertha Robinson, Blanche Girard, and Claire Tetreault. He is survived by his wife Lucille Racine of 61 years, his brother George Racine, his sister Irene Tetreault, and all his children, Dr. Maurice Racine, Leo, Christine, Philip, Louise, and all his grandchildren and great grandchildren. The calling hours will be held at Ross Funeral Home in Mooers on December 8 at 1:00pm to 3:00pm and the funeral mass will be at St. Mary's in Champlain on December 9 at 10:00am. The family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Assistance Center (ADAC) at 101 Broad St #227 Plattsburgh, NY 12901 in lieu of flowers.
