Maurice Francis Young

Maurice Young, age 85 of Gatesville, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.

 

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 10, 2024, at King Baptist Church with Pastor Charles McKamie officiating.  The family will receive visitors from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, at Scott’s Funeral Home.  Interment will be at King Baptist Church Cemetery.    

 

Maurice Francis Young was born on March 18, 1939, to the late William Carroll and Vella Freeman Young in McGregor, Texas.  He grew up and attended school in Gatesville, graduating from Gatesville High School in 1958.  Later that year, he and his high school sweetheart, Joyce Dyer, eloped to Mexico and were married.  He also joined the United States Army as a Medic that same year, and was stationed at San Antonio, serving for four and a half years.  After leaving the military, he worked for a short time for a loan company and later as a Park Ranger for Fort Parker State Park.  He also worked in the construction business, serving as a Superintendent for many years until his retirement.  He and his family moved to Gatesville in 1974.  In 1978 they relocated to the King Community, where he built his family homestead.  He loved working around his farm and ranch and enjoyed collecting silver and old rare coins in his spare time.  He also enjoyed fishing, as well as camping and traveling with his family, visiting many places in the United States.  He was a regular member of the King Baptist Church.  He was also a proud member of the American Legion, Post 42.    

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce of 57 years; infant sister, Wilma Elizabeth Young; and brother, Wayne C. Young.

 

Maurice is survived by his children, Kathy Tull and husband, Stanley, Sherri Harrison, and Richard Young and wife, Dayna; sister, Marilyn Shine and husband, Richard; grandchildren, Phillip Tull and wife Christy, Jered Tull, Amber Wilson and husband, Nate, Wade Young and wife, Taylor, and Kayla Young; and great grandchildren, Miles, Tripp, Alley, Emma, Indiana, Arlo, and Scout.
