Mavis Louise Jones

Mavis Louise Jones was born in Luck Hill, Saint Mary, Jamaica on January 15, 1926. The sixth of 10 children to James and Edith Fuller. She relocated to Montego Bay where she became established as a skilled seamstress.
In 1962, she migrated to the United States and settled in the Hartford. Here she continued her craft in sewing beautiful gowns for women in the greater Hartford area, while at the same time operating a home-based day care business. She later extended her industry and was known as a major land owner and landlord in Hartford. Mavis was also an avid gardener which occupied much of her summer evenings.
A devout member of Liberty Christian Center, Mavis Jones is survived by her daughters Sadie Walker and Sonia Edwards and son Randy Norman. Her daughter Barbara Matheson had predeceased her. She is also survived by six grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. She has outlived all of her siblings and will be greatly missed by her family.
