Mavis Ione Langguth now knows, "Joy is the serious business of heaven" (C.S. Lewis). Born September 7th, 1940, to Arthur and Mary Jenson in Roseau, MN., Mavis died Wednesday, November 9th, 2022, in Barberton, Ohio, of "the effects of a long, well lived life". Mavis was preceded in death by her sister Lorna and both parents. She is survived by three siblings; Melva (Robert) of Roseau, MN, Leroy of Colorado, and Richard of Texas. She leaves many nieces and nephews; especially nieces Pam, Peggy and Mary, who supported her in recent years; dear friends and colleagues, too numerous to count. Mavis' life work was in healthcare. Her career started at Colorado Children's Hospital. She retired from Barberton Citizens Hospital after 45 years in respiratory care and pulmonary rehabilitation. She was instrumental in developing the hospital's Respiratory Forum, and actively participated in the pet therapy program with her beloved pup dogs.Mavis loved people, especially children. She was an honorary aunt and grandmother to many throughout her life. An active member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Barberton, she was a member of the Lutheran Church Women, participated in Vacation Bible School and Altar Guild, organized altar flower sales, and a myriad of other activities. Mavis would routinely visit the elderly or hospitalized, often with her schnauzer, Nikki, up until last year, when her health prevented it. While at home, and when at Pleasant View, her church family, pastor, and dear friends Annette and Barb were a consistent source of support and encouragement. The visits, calls and cards were always appreciated. Though an avid world traveler, every September she reunited with family in her beloved northern Minnesota, timing her visit before the snow and frigid temperatures. Special thanks to friends at Pleasant View Skilled Nursing facility, who compassionately cared for her in her last months. Mavis loved well, offering a sweet example of the love of Christ. Her faithful devotion to friends was unmeasured. Her conversations sprinkled with a heavy dose of wit. Often, she would exhort friends when they parted, "Be careful dear heart. It's a jungle out there!" In lieu of a funeral, the community is invited to a "Celebration Meal for Mavis" on Saturday, December 3rd at 11am at First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Barberton. Please contact our church office with any questions...330-753-6323, 249 2nd St. NW, Barberton. Please join us down in our Fellowship Hall (ADA accessible). Memorial donations in honor of Mavis may be given to First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 249 2nd St NW, Barberton, OH 44203 or to the animal rescue of your choice, to honor Mavis's love of her pup dogs.
