Mavis Louise Maynard, 87, of Trinity, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025. She was born on July 8, 1938, in Harnett County, North Carolina, to the late James Elmon Maynard and Effie Maynor Maynard.
Mavis was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Johnnie Stephen Maynard, who passed away on October 11, 2022. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Pearl Bell, Delphia Chance, and Vernell Brewington; and her brothers, Floyd, Leslie, Lacy, Telmadge, Eldridge, and James Maynard.
She is survived by her loving children: Jeff Maynard and wife Rebecca of
Lexington, NC; Victor "Vic" Maynard of
Greensboro, NC; Johnnie J. Maynard and wife Sabrina of
Sophia, NC; and Candy Clemmer and husband Robert of
Trinity, NC. She is also survived by her godson, Wade Oxendine of
Randleman, NC.
Mavis was a devoted grandmother to Chris Maynard and wife Stephanie of Thomasville, NC; Crystal Foster of
Greensboro, NC; Stephen Maynard and wife Katie of
Sophia, NC; Jessica McMillan and husband Kevin of Lincolnton, NC; Eric Maynard and fiancée Brook Burgess of
Randleman, NC; Victor Oxendine of
Randleman, NC; Candace Saints and husband Tyler of
Trinity, NC; James Clemmer of
Trinity, NC; and Jacob Clemmer of
Trinity, NC. She was blessed with great-grandchildren Amber, Kaitlyn, Kyleigh, Ben, Tate, Luke, Samuel, Rhett, Elizabeth, Skye, Hunter, and Maddox, as well as a great-great-grandchild, Ariel Renee Lee Scott. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.
A woman of deep and abiding faith, Mavis was a faithful member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in
Archdale, NC. She loved the Lord and treasured her family above all else. Known as a superior cook, Mavis was famous throughout her family and community for her chicken and dumplings and homemade cakes. She was often encouraged to open a restaurant, and her home was frequently filled with law enforcement officers-friends and colleagues of her sons-who enjoyed her warm hospitality and incredible cooking.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Shady Grove Baptist Church,
Archdale, NC. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
