Mavis grew up in Pilot Mound, Iowa, and graduated from Pilot Mound Consolidated Schools. On November 25, 1967, Mavis was united in marriage to Verle Swanson at the Covenant Church in Pilot Mound, Iowa. They were the proud parents of two children, Gary and Karla.
Mavis was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church, where, for many years, she taught Sunday School. She especially loved spending time with her family and her church family. Over the last year, she really enjoyed her time living at Westhaven Community, where she received great care and there were always activities for her to be involved in. She also loved her friends there and being able to show pictures of her family on her ipad or cell phone.
Mavis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Verle; and sister, Delores. She is survived by her son, Gary (Wendy) Swanson of Boone, IA; daughter, Karla (Jason) Becker of West Des Moines, IA; 6 grandchildren: Maddie (Logan) Gibbs, Allie and Paxton Swanson, Brianna (Connor) Corbin, Emme, and Riley Becker; great-granddaughter, Braelynn Gibbs; sister, Eleanor Sturtz of Pella, IA; Nieces, Nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Augustana Lutheran Church, 309 South Greene Street, Boone, IA, with Rev. Robin Coughennower officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Augustana Lutheran Church, 309 South Greene Street, Boone. A private family burial will take place at Linwood Park Cemetery, Boone, IA. Memorials are suggested to Augustana Lutheran Church, where checks can be made out to Augustana Lutheran Church.
