Duane Lee Shreve, 61, of Luther, Iowa, passed away on October 1, 2025, at Israel Hospice House in Ames, with his mother and sister by his side. He had fought a courageous battle with cancer for nine years.
Duane, the son of H. Ronald Shreve and Nancy (Adams) Shreve was born in Boone, Iowa, on July 8, 1964. He grew up in Luther and attended United Community School, graduating in 1982. While there, he played both basketball and football. He attended DMACC (Ankeny Campus) and graduated with an Associate's Degree.
Duane enjoyed working outdoors. He worked in housing construction and remodeling as long as his health allowed. He was a longtime fan of ISU and the Chicago Bears, and he rarely missed a NASCAR race. He also enjoyed being with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Shreve; grandparents Louise and Buell Shreve and Margaret and Harold Adams; stepfather, Donald Ross; and his faithful dog, Sonny.
Survivors include his mother, Nancy Ross; sister, Diane (Don) Shearer; niece, Danielle (Jake) Earp, and their daughter, Maxine. Additionally, uncles and aunts, Bill Shreve, Linda (Bill) Pennington, Don Adams, and Nan Bonfils, as well as stepmother Cheryl Shreve, and many friends and extended family.
As per Duane's wishes, no memorial services are planned.
We want to thank everyone at Bliss Cancer Center and Israel Hospice House. We are grateful for the kind and expert care from Dr. Rudrapatna and Dr. Kaminski.
