Max Clayton Deyton, known affectionately by all as Max, departed from this life on January 29, 2025, at the age of 66, in Seneca, South Carolina. Born in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, on February 17, 1958, Max lived a life characterized by joy, wisdom, and an unwavering dedication to his loved ones.

After graduating from Chase High School in Forest City, North Carolina, in 1976, Max continued his education at Isothermal Community College in Spindale, NC expanding his intellect and laying the foundation for a fulfilling career. Max eventually retired as a PCA in Rutherfordton and later warmly greeted countless patrons as a part-time Garden Center Greeter at Walmart, where his sunny disposition was a bright spot in many people's day.

His heart full of love, Max shared 33 beautiful years of marriage with his wife, Jessica "Jill" McSwain Deyton. Together, they nurtured a family that included their sons, Christian Neill Deyton – father to Sammie, Tristan, Aubriana, and Sophia – and Stephen Patrick Deyton – father to Holden. His grandchildren were the light of his life, bringing him immense joy and pride.

Max's journey was shared with his siblings, Robert Deyton of Cantonment, Florida; Bill Deyton and his wife Sharon of Pensacola, Florida; Pat Hammett and her husband Larry of Mooresboro, North Carolina; Dianne Crowe and her husband Bobby of Forest City, North Carolina; and Keith Deyton of Mooresboro, North Carolina. He treasured his close-knit family, celebrating life's accomplishments and weathering its storms alongside them.

The world of sports brought great excitement to Max, who enjoyed golf, reveled in the victories of the NCSU Wolfpack basketball team, and was a dedicated fan of NASCAR and the NFL's Washington (Redskins) Commanders. He found relaxation in the simple pleasures, such as reading the Greenville News Comics, solving puzzle pages, and cherishing his endearing love for The Andy Griffith Show. Crafting flower pots with Jill each spring and fall was a beloved tradition, reflecting their shared creativity and affection for beauty.

Above all, Max will be remembered as a loving husband, a funny and intelligent father, and an adored grandfather. He cherished every moment spent with his wife and soulmate, his children, and his grandchildren. Their memories of his laughter, companionship, and the wisdom he imparted will remain an indelible legacy.

Max Deyton's life was a testament to the simple truth that the richest treasures are found not in possessions, but in relationships and the moments shared with those we love. His spirit, eternally etched in the hearts of those who knew him, will continue to guide and inspire for generations to come.

A Memorial Service will be held at Harrelson's Funeral Home in Forest City, NC on Friday, March 14, 2025 with Rev. Ken Owens presiding Family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 3:45pm.
