Maxene Benevides Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shepherd Funeral & Cremation Service on Jan. 21, 2026.
Maxene Elaine Benevides, 76, passed away peacefully at her home in Duxbury on January 18, 2026. She will be reunited with her beloved husband, Jilio Benevides, who passed away in 2016, as well as her siblings Sandy Young, Martha Hathaway, and Marv Nickerson. Max is survived by her son Jeff and his partner Tracy Flanders of Kingston, as well as her treasured grandchildren Jenson and Rosalie. She was a favorite aunt to Carla Loring and Caryn Loring Duncan, and was deeply grateful for their loving care and support during her final weeks. Max was also a cherished aunt to many other nieces and nephews. In addition, she leaves behind her longtime companion, her beloved cat Poncho.

Born in Plymouth to William and Dorothy Nickerson, Max grew up in Duxbury and married Jilio shortly after high school. She dedicated over 20 years of her career as a bookkeeper at Saint George Street Garage in Duxbury. Additionally, she served as a tenant representative at the Duxbury Housing Authority until her passing.

Max had a zest for life, enjoying cherished moments with her best friend and loving husband Jilio, celebrating holidays and special occasions with family, attending van club events, NASCAR races, camping, traveling to Aruba, and embracing her passion for flamingo and tie-dye fashion. In her later years, she treasured spending time with her son and grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held at Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St., Kingston, on Wednesday, January 28th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a celebration of her life to follow at the Duxbury American Legion Post 223, 5 West St., Duxbury. Burial will be private.

Donations in Max's memory may be made to the Standish Humane Society, 622 Congress St., Duxbury, MA 02332.
