Maxine Corder

Loretta Maxine (Arnold) Corder of Independence, Missouri, returned to her heavenly home on June 14, 2024. The Lord granted her 94 years of life. Maxine was born on September 15th, 1929 to Walter and Lula Arnold in Boliver, Missouri. Maxine met her husband David E. Myers at William Chrisman High School. They were married on July 27, 1946. Maxine and David were blessed with a daughter, Linda K. (Myers) Bishop, and a son, Steven D. Myers. Maxine worked evenings for Montgomery Wards in Kansas City when her children were younger. She then worked part-time for Bundschu's on the Independence Square. Maxine later worked for the IRS part-time during tax season. When her children were grown, she went to work full time and became a Manager for the IRS. Maxine and David were divorced in 1971, and while working for the IRS she met her second husband, Hubert D. Corder. They were married 41 years until his death in 2016. Maxine later went to work for Dr. Ladas as the receptionist at the Suchman and Ladas Dental Office. She worked there for many years until she retired. 

Maxine was a convert to the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she faithfully attended church every Sunday. She was a Women’s leader at the Englewood congregation, volunteered to sit in the nursery, and helped with many baby showers. At the time of her death, she was a dedicated member of the 39th Street R.L.D.S. congregation. 

Maxine loved to spend time with her family; both immediate and extended. She loved going to Pomme De Terre Lake in Wheatland, Missouri, where she had a lake house. During her many weekends there, she especially enjoyed boating, swimming, and fishing. Maxine loved to organize annual family reunions at Bennet Springs where she enjoyed reconnecting with family she didn’t get to see often. 

Maxine was an artistic person who loved quilting. She made beautiful wedding quilts for her children and grandchildren, as well as a variety of quilts of all colors, shapes, and sizes. She also sewed dresses and knitted beautiful blankets and baby booties. Maxine adored spending time with all of her grandchildren whether it was tea parties, games, cooking, swimming, watching movies, sleepovers, or just chatting. And when she wasn’t busy with her grandchildren, she could be found talking to someone, whether on the phone or in person. 

Maxine always kept her Lord and Savior, family and friends in her heart. And she always encouraged us to do the same. Her life was a reflection of Christ’s love, and she had a wonderful way of making everyone feel special whether they were family or not. 

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Hubert D. Corder, her parents Walter and Lula Arnold, four brothers, Delbert Arnold, Leonard Arnold, Donald Arnold and Clarence Arnold as well as four sisters, Nell Hill, Mable Jackson, Grace Stark, and Gladys Tippet. 

Maxine is survived by her daughter Linda K. Bishop and husband Samuel, and her son Steven Myers and wife Susan; her seven grandchildren, Samuel D. Bishop, Angela Fears and husband Brian, Paul Bishop and wife Shawna, David Myers, Steve Myers and wife Rebecca, Trevor Myers, and Brady Myers and wife Lindsay, as well as twelve great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

Maxine will be lovingly remembered and incredibly missed. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at Special Ministries congregation 1706 S. Northern Blvd., Independence, MO 64052 on Friday, June 28 at 4:00 p.m.
