Maxine M. Keller, age 101, of Navarre, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 15, 2025, at her home. Born on January 12, 1924, to the late Harry and Mildred (Kaylor) Fetters, Maxine was a proud graduate of Navarre High School and lifelong member of the community she cherished.
In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Keller; her son-in-law, Barry Askren; her grandson, Keith Kerby; her sister, Arlene Smith; her brother, Charles Fetters; and her great-grandson, Zachary Neuenschwander.
Known affectionately as Gram to family and friends, Maxine is lovingly survived by daughters Jan (Bob) Smith, Barb (Jeff) Define, and Julie (Mike) Kerby, all of Navarre. She also leaves behind grandchildren, Kirk (Jamie) Askren, Melissa (Steve) Edgehouse, Stacey (Chris) Parratt, John (Ashley) Define, Kent Kerby, Lori Neuenschwander, Natalie (Nathan) Simmons, and Mike Smith, and great-grandchildren Sarah and Isabelle Parratt, Lily and Rowan Askren, Estelle and Keller Edgehouse, Aubrey and Owen Define, Keegan Kerby, Brandon Simmons, Allyson (Nicolas) Szerszen, Christian (Kyleen) Simmons, Lauren Neuenschwander, Mackenzie and Jack Smith, and great-great-grandchildren Emerson Simmons, Myra and Luka Szerszen, and Liam Neuenschwander.
A woman of unwavering faith and deep devotion, Maxine was a member of Fohl Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was baptized. She married her sweetheart, Bob, on February 12, 1944, just before he was deployed overseas during World War II-a testament to their enduring love and commitment.
Maxine was the heart and soul of her family. A gifted and gracious hostess, she created a home that was warm, welcoming, and always filled with the irresistible aromas of home-cooked meals. Her chocolate chip cookies, apple pie, and banana bread were legendary, and her gentle habit of whistling hymns as she cooked became the soundtrack of countless family memories. For decades, she and Bob generously prepared nightly dinners for a house often filled with extended family and the occasional neighbor; all were welcome at their table.
An accomplished seamstress, Maxine was the family's trusted expert for mending clothes and crafting beautiful garments. Among her proudest achievements were the wedding and bridesmaid dresses she lovingly sewed for her daughters.
She was also a devoted fan of Ohio State and Cleveland sports, faithfully watching nearly every game-even into the early hours when the Cavs and Guardians played on the West Coast.
Maxine took immense pride in her family, often sharing stories of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren with quiet joy and unmistakable pride. Living near her daughters and their families brought her tremendous happiness, and her presence enriched the lives of all who knew her. Her wit, kindness, strength, and grace leave behind a legacy that will be cherished forever.
The family will hold a private celebration of life. Memorial donations may be made in her honor to the Fairless Food Cupboard.
