Maxine Murphy, of Burlington, North Carolina, entered eternal rest on November 17, 2025, at the age of 78. She was born on December 19, 1946, in Alamance County, North Carolina.
Maxine worked in the textile industry for many years. She was known for her dedication and quiet strength, and she was never afraid to nicely speak her mind. Whether offering advice, standing up for what was right, or simply sharing her thoughts, Maxine spoke with a gentle boldness that was both refreshing and respected. Her honesty was always wrapped in kindness, and her words carried wisdom, humor, and heart.
She loved to dance to good music, laugh until her cheeks hurt, and enjoy life's simple pleasures. She found joy in fishing on quiet afternoons, sipping cold Pepsis, watching her favorite shows, and spending time with her family. She adored beach vacations with her sisters-"The Murphy Girls"-where laughter echoed, and memories were made. Maxine had a way of making ordinary moments feel special, and her presence brought comfort and joy to those around her.
Maxine was a faithful member of Miracle Temple on Apple Street in Burlington, where her commitment to God and her church community was central to her life. She is survived by her oldest son, Todd Murphy, her baby girl, Tammy Murphy, and her special daughter, Garnetta Enoch; her brother, Earl Murphy; and her sisters, Donnie Murphy, Maggie Murphy, and Elaine Burnette. She also leaves behind a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved so very dearly. Among her grandchildren, she held a special place in her heart for her oldest grandchild, Latoya Murphy, and her granddaughter Daniqua Hatfield, whom she lovingly took in. Among her great-grandchildren, she held a special place for her oldest great-grandchild, Fabian Murphy, whose presence brought her joy and pride.
Maxine was preceded in death by her son, Tony Murphy; her parents, Donnie Weldon Murphy and Gladys H. Murphy; her brother; Weldon "Butch" Murphy; her sisters, Gladys "Mickey" Core, Jody Thompson, Cora Norman, and Bonnie Murphy; and her long-time companion, Carl Bozeman, whose memory she held dear.
In accordance with Maxine's wishes, there will be no formal funeral service and no traditional family gathering at the home. She simply asked to be viewed. The family welcomes those who wish to quietly honor her life, reflect on cherished memories, and recognize the joy she brought to everyone around her.
