I miss you grandma! There’s so much I’d love to talk to you about! I know you’d be able to put my head on straight with going back into the classroom during covid!!!! No matter what-May I remember to connect with each child in a special way like you always did with your students!

Today we remembered Maxine Dawn Schaefer. Maxine was my birthday buddy, role model, and friend. Maxine served as a WAVE for the Navy in WWII. She also graduated from a rural school in Wisconsin, paid her way through college to earn her Bachelors Degree, was a teacher, and even got her MASTERS Degree! Maxine was a successful and loving wife, mother, teacher, and friend. I will always remember this strong-willed, intelligent, and beautiful woman. My memories with her are too numerous to write here. She perhaps may have forgotten who I was, or couldn't articulate that she knew me, but there was no mistaking the look on her face followed by the point and laugh, every time I said "Hiya, Max!". On what turned out to be Maxine's last afternoon on this earth, the rec staff including myself had every person we could fit sitting outside and we socialized and listened to music for about two hours! I had the opportunity to take Maxine's hands one last time and sing and sway to the music with her. I will always cherish those memories. Maxine exemplified love, compassion, and the joys of serving others every day of her life. I am truly grateful to have known such a wonderful woman. While I will miss her and her humor, I have a profound sense of peace knowing that she is at peace and in a much better place with her loved ones.
I miss ya, Max, and I'll be seeing you.

We all have great memories of your mom and your dad. What a close knit neighborhood we had the chance to grow up in, lots of fun times to look back on. It's hard to see the last of the "greatest generation" leave us! Our thoughts and prayers are with you and may all your loving memories help you through your loss. The Ashton Family

Maxine, I wish I could be a part of the celebration of your life. As with you,
duty calls and I am on deployment on an aircraft carrier. We share the spirit of the Navy and I know you are here with me in Spirit enjoying the WAVES and keeping me safe.

Mrs. Schaefer was one of my favorite teachers. I was somewhat of a disruptive student and she on occasion would state that she "wanted to shake the puddin out of me" she was very kind to me, understanding I had home difficulties etc.

It would be wonderful to see things family and friends remember about Maxine in this guest book! She was a committed and determined mother to Nile and me, and she lead a very full life!
