Maxine Spangler Whistler

Maxine's legacy is one of love, loyalty and a life well lived.

Maxine Spangler Whistler - age 89 of Lenoir City, passed away peacefully, Thursday evening, August 14, 2025 at her home. Maxine was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Knoxville and formerly Trinity United Methodist Church in Lenoir City. She graduated from Young High in Knoxville where she was a cheerleader. She attended the University of Tennessee, was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority and was an avid UT sports fan. Maxine was an avid bridge player and also enjoyed mahjong. She loved being outdoors golfing and hiking.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Whister, Sr.; parents, Elmer and Faye Spangler; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Glenn and Thelma Whistler; brother-in-law, George Fowler; niece, Angela Fowler.

She is survived by her children: Donald Lee Whistler, Jr., Susan Whistler Reid (Tim), Burt Daniel Whistler (Lawrence Blarr), and Sarah Whistler Womack (Jason); grandchildren: Phillip W. Farmer, Jr., Mary Elizabeth Farmer, Whitney Brook Whistler Smith, Lane Womack, and Justin Womack; great grandchildren: Chloe Smelcer (Blaine), Hunter Hill, Austin Farmer, Alyssa Farmer, Korbin Farmer; sister, Sonja Fowler; nephew, Wesley Fowler, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Maxine's life will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19th at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City. Family and friends will gather at the entrance of Woodlawn Cemetery in Knoxville by 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20th and proceed to her grave site for graveside services and interment at 11 a.m. Rev.
