Maxwell Fielding Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 12 to Feb. 19, 2023.
Maxwell Fielding, of Northport NY and Boynton Beach, FL, died peacefully in his sleep on January 11, 2023. His wife, Tamara Fielding, whom he loved deeply and steadily, was by his side.

Maxwell was born in New York City on March 15, 1928, to Abraham and Arline Friedopfer. He grew up in Forest Hills and was valedictorian of his high school class. Maxwell attended UCLA and graduated with a BA in History from Queens College. After graduation, he joined his father's business, Lyons Furniture, on Main Street in Huntington, NY where he eventually became co-owner with his brother, Marty. Max was a longtime member of the Rotary Club for several decades.

In 1949, Maxwell married Wilma Guth, from the Bronx, NYC. The couple raised their sons Glen and Randy in Huntington, NY.

Maxwell married Tamara Hillman in 1983 in Northport, NY where they remained until moving to Boynton Beach, FL in 2022. They had a close, deeply loving relationship for over forty years. Tamara's children, Daniel and Jessica, along with Glen and Randy, became a vital part of Maxwell's family life.

Maxwell was a good dancer and loved to cut loose on the dance floor at parties and family celebrations. Late in life, Maxwell became a most able and accomplished First Mate on Tamara's twin engine boat, appropriately named "Born To Be Wild". Along with the Northport Neptune Power Squadron they enjoyed excursions in and about Long Island Sound, sailing as far as West Point on the Hudson, Block Island, and Montauk Point.

Maxwell is survived by his wife, Tamara, and his children, Glen and Randy Fielding, stepchildren Daniel Hillman and Jessica (Hillman) Lievendag, and five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
