Mayling Bittner

Mayling Bittner, 64, of Carlisle, entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 27, 2026.

Born on July 19, 1961, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Elvin J. Bittner, Sr. and Annie E. (Campbell) Bittner. Mayling was a 1979 graduate of Redland High School and went on to dedicate many years of service as a valued secretary with IBM, where she was known for her commitment and professionalism.

Outside of her professional life, Mayling's greatest joy was her family. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to those she loved, always placing family above all else. Deeply passionate about her roots, she served as both secretary and historian of the Faust Family Reunion Committee, taking great pride in preserving her family's history and ensuring its legacy for generations to come.

Mayling also had a gentle heart for animals, especially cats. She was known for her compassion, often opening her home to strays in need of care, warmth, and love.

She is lovingly survived by her children, Joshua S. Bittner and his wife, Auri; Elizabeth J. Hoover and her husband, Jeffrey; and Lauren V. Nelson and her husband, Keith; as well as her cherished grandchildren, Ariella G. Bittner, Greyson J. Bittner, Gideon J. Bittner, Memphis A. Bittner, Jareth K. Bittner, Kailani J. Nelson, Jillien J. Nelson, Rhyder J. Nelson, Joshua M.E. Bittner, Cameron Bittner, Cadenze J. Nelson, Adia "Olivier" G. Barber, Addison L. Hoover, and Milo G. Hoover. She is also survived by her sister, Valerie Walsh.

In addition to her parents, Mayling was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Lorraine "Rainey" Ellen Avery, who passed away on May 1, 2015; her longtime companion, Jeff Walsh; her brother, Elvin J. Bittner, Jr.; and her brother-in-law, Brian Walsh.

A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Drive, Carlisle, PA 17015. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m. at New Bloomfield Cemetery.
