Maynard Alden Richardson Jr., 78, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025, at Cayuga Medical Center. He was predeceased by his parents, Lenora (Bell) Richardson and Maynard "Ozzie" Alden Richardson Sr; his beloved wife, Patricia "Patti" Jo Richardson, with whom he shared 40 wonderful years of marriage after marrying in 1973; his brother, David Richardson; sisters-in-law Martha "Marty" Richardson; Susan Andrews and Barbara Fried. Maynard is survived by his two sons, Aaron (Emily) Richardson, and Brandon (Bobby Jo) Richardson. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Haley Richardson, Justin Richardson, and Ruby Richardson. He is also survived by his sisters, Charlotte Richardson, and Lorraine (Erich) VanLowe; sister-in-law Jaqueline Andrews; brother-in-law Richard Andrews; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly. A proud graduate of Ithaca Senior High School, Class of 1964, Maynard went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army from 1966 to 1969. After his military service, he built a long and dedicated career at Cornell University, where he worked as a plumber for 25 years under UA Local 81. Maynard was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in Ithaca, NY, and a devoted volunteer firefighter in his community. He was also an avid bowler who participated in numerous leagues throughout the years. A proud New York Yankees and New York Giants fan, Maynard never missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams. Friends and family will remember Maynard for his quick wit, sense of humor, and his famous potato salad that became a staple at every gathering. He brought laughter, kindness, and warmth wherever he went. The family is beyond grateful for the care, help, and support provided by Shelly Lopez over the past several years. What began as a caregiver relationship grew into a true friendship, and Maynard looked forward to seeing her each day. Maynard will be remembered for his unwavering love for family, his dedication to service, and his generous, good-natured spirit. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Services will be held at Herson-Wagner Funeral Home in Ithaca, NY, on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to gather afterwards at the VFW in Ithaca, NY, for a celebration of Maynard's life.
