Melanie Claire Slocum Tierney entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the age of 82. She lived in Marrero, La.
She is survived by her loving husband, August "Gus" Jr.; her sons August "Gus" III (Christine) and Christopher Tierney; her step-grandchildren Chris (Svetha) and Ashley (Nigel), and her step great-grandchildren Ranak and Meera. She is also survived by her godchild, Terry Breaux, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who were very dear to her. Her mischievous cat, Peanut, also misses her.
Melanie is preceded in death by her parents, Nellie Caddin and George D. Slocum, Sr., and her siblings, Mrs. Merle Hughes, Mrs. Malvina Rodriguez, Mrs. Mary Vanderford, Mrs. Betty Breaux, George Jr., John (JW), Anthony, Earl, and Charles Slocum.
She worked at South Central Bell and Ochsner Clinic as an operator and a receptionist, respectively. During her life, she enjoyed crafting, shopping, watching Hallmark movies, and lunches at the Ladies Ballroom. She loved spending time at the Lafitte Senior Center, participating in activities and socializing with family and friends.
