Obituary published on Legacy.com by L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home on Jan. 28, 2026.
Melanie "Mellie" Stephens Turner entered into eternal life on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at the age of 77. She was a native of
Chalmette, LA, and a resident of
Kenner, LA.
Melanie worked at an insurance company when she was younger, but chose to be a stay-at-home mom to Natasia and Allison. She volunteered at their school, St. Lawrence, and proudly served as Mother's Club President in 1986.
Mellie loved to craft and collect beautiful things such as dolls, dishes, princesses, and so many treasures. She loved to sparkle and bling anything and everything she could. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, dancing, and so much more.
Her Catholic faith was visible to anyone who met her, and she taught us all how to live a life for Jesus and trust Him in everything. Mellie's love of the rosary was a beautiful example of the importance of praying to our Blessed Mother for her intercession.
Melanie and Doug met when they were 18, married at 20, and shared 45 beautiful years of marriage. Their love was evident through the many memories made at music gatherings in their home with family, traveling together, and riding their Harley across the United States.
Mellie's greatest joy was her family. She adored her grandchildren and cherished every moment spent with them. She also had a special place in her heart for her beloved fur (grand-baby), Stella, who brought her so much happiness.
She is now reunited with our sweet dad and with Tiffany and Craig, the two precious babies she miscarried.
Mellie had a giving, and servant heart and truly loved helping others. Her sparkle has left this earth, and heaven is a little brighter with Mellie in it.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Douglas "Doug" Turner, parents Earl Richard Stephens and Cora Dufour Stephens, step-father, Jerry Sicard, and sister Nanette Carpenter.
Mellie is survived by her children; Natasia Kissinger (Ricky) and Allison Fleming (Shawn). Grandchildren; Alexis Heikkila (Chandler), Jordan Kissinger, Kylie Kissinger, Britton Kissinger, Keira Kissinger, Ava Kissinger, Portia Fleming, Tristan Fleming, and Scarlett Fleming; Great Grandchildren, Callum Heikkila and Baby Heikkila (arriving on February 27th) Siblings; Susu S. Castillon (Al), Richelle Stephens, Earl Stephens (Sheri), Bobby Stephens (Tangie), Anna Pfeil (Peter). Brother-in-law, Zu Carpenter. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, and sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.
We would like to thank the staff of Holly Court Memory Care for all of their love and support for our mom the last couple of years.
In memory of Mellie, the family encourages guests to wear pink or colorful attire in celebration of her joyful and sparkling spirit.
