Melbourne (Mel) Taggart, a longtime resident of the Texhoma and Goodwell areas, passed away in hospice care in Oklahoma City on August 26, 2025. Mel was the son of DeLaus and Ida (Beck) Taggart born July 12, 1937 in Guymon, OK. He was 88 years old at the time of his passing.

Mel was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years: Shirley, parents: DeLaus and Ida, grandparents: Grover C. and Maggie Taggart, son: Garry Robison, son-in-law: Larry Willis and grandson: David Behne.

He is survived by his sister, June Dennis; her children: Bob (Debra) Dennis, Cheryl (Mike) Trent, and Joe Dennis. His children: Keith (Ann) Taggart of Oklahoma City; Tina Willis of Oklahoma City; Susan (Jim) Mattocks of Guymon, OK; Allen (Rebecca) Robison of Eagle, ID; and Judi (Randy) Richardson of Seligman, MO. His grandchildren: Kari (Josh) Dyer, Kaci (Bernard) Floranda, Clint (Amy) Glazner, Shirlee Blasingame, Fara Robinson, Heath (Allison) Anderson, Dannie Beller, Robert Kidd, Tyler (Tera) Mattocks, Corey Kidd, Season (Ty) McBride, Michael Robison, Shana (William) Roemerman, Crystal Landess, 31 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as sister-in-law Ann Beall and family and a nephew by marriage Bob Hundley Jr. and family. He is also survived by his little dog, Gus.

Mel was a 12 year graduate of Goodwell Public Schools, and after graduation he enrolled at Okmulgee Technical College where he learned the skills of auto and diesel repair. He married Shirley Robison July 5, 1968, and they began their married life on Mel's grandparent's homestead northwest of Goodwell where he farmed and had a mechanic shop. After many years on the farm, they moved to Texhoma and built a home there to retire. While there he grew the best strawberries that he shared with friends and the community. Mel was also known for his signature phrase as people were walking out of the door: "Well, goodbye now. Take care of yourself, and whatever you do, stay out of trouble." We love you and will miss you. - Your loving family
