Melcor A. Chavez Jr., beloved uncle, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on September 30, 1935, in Toreon New Mexico, to Melcor and Conception Chavez, Melcor lived a full and meaningful life rooted in faith, family, and service.

A man of deep Catholic devotion, Melcor was known for his annual pilgrimages to El Santuario de Chimayó, faithfully carrying his sacred crucifix on his back for as many years as his body allowed. His faith was a guiding light in his life, and he never lost his reverence or connection to his beliefs.

Melcor had a sharp wit and a great sense of humor that brought joy to everyone around him. He was known for his brilliance and for being exceptionally skilled with his hands-qualities that earned him admiration and respect throughout his life. He was also remembered fondly as a sharp dresser who took pride in his appearance.

He loved spending time with his family, especially on trips to the casino, indulging at buffets, and traveling to new places. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Melcor is preceded in death by his parents, Melcor and Conception Chavez. He is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Services: A viewing will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025, at 9:00 AM, followed by the Rosary at 10:00 AM and Mass at 10:30 AM, all at San Antonio Parish in Toreon NM. Burial will follow, with a reception held at Toreon Hall to celebrate his life.

Pallbearers will be Dale Gutierrez, Lee Gutierrez, Nobert Chavez, Matthew Pohl, Julian Trujillo, and Michael Trujillo.
