Roy Roger Dickey (1941–2025)

Roy Dickey, born in Belleville, Illinois, passed away in September 2025, leaving behind a legacy of creativity and innovation. During World War II, Roy and his mother resided with his grandparents in Illinois. After the war, his parents Milt and Ruby settled in North Kansas City, Missouri, where Roy welcomed his brother, Jim.

Roy's remarkable talents as a designer and artist emerged early. After high school, he earned the prestigious Fisher Body Craftsman Guild Automotive Design Scholarship for exceptional model car design. He pursued his passion at The Art Center School of Design in California, where he met his wife Toby. The couple married and began their life together, with Roy launching his design career in automotive design studios in Detroit.

Later, the family relocated to El Paso, Texas, where Roy channeled his creativity into various entrepreneurial ventures. There, they welcomed their three children, Kelly, Holly and Otis. Eventually settling in Los Lunas, NM, Roy worked as a design engineer for government contractors. His career culminated in a distinguished role as a member of the Senior Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories.

Beyond his professional achievements, Roy led a vibrant life. He loved watching professional football, was an accomplished bowler, painted captivating futuristic landscapes for his annual calendars, designed and fabricated custom cars, and pursued numerous artistic projects that showcased his endless imagination and skills.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents Milton and Ruby Dickey, his wife Teresa (Toby) Dickey. He is survived by daughters Kelly Poore (husband Darren) and Holly Rybacki (husband Chris) and son Otis Dickey (wife Rachel), brother Jim Dickey (wife Ginny) and grandchildren Camille, Ryan, EJ, Jadon, Riley, Logan, Sidney.
