Melinda S. Colwell, 61, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2025 at Union General Hospital. Melinda was born November 26, 1963, in Blairsville, Georgia to Hughes and Mary Sue Akins Colwell.
Melinda was preceded in death by mother, Mary Sue Colwell; father, Hughes Colwell; and sister Nancy Gooch.
She is survived by her brother Jim Colwell; and many nieces and nephews.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville. Melinda was affectionately known as the "town aunt." She loved her job at Union County High School, spending time with friends and family and visiting the beach. When she was well, she never missed a school sports event.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 24th at 4:00 pm at First Baptist Church with Rev. Adam Bishop officiating. Music provided by Kurtis Underwood.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Seth Colwell, Max Bishop, Chris Dyer, Chandler Gooch, Luke Colwell, and Jake Colwell; with Scotty Dyer, Jeffrey Gooch, Stephen Gooch, Patrick Gooch, Griffin Bishop, and Gabe Colwell serving as honorary pallbearers.
Interment will follow at Union Memory Gardens in Blairsville.
The family will receive friends at Cochran McDaniel Funeral Home on Sunday, March 23rd from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and on Monday, March 24th at First Baptist Church of Blairsville from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
