Melinda Rae Greene, known affectionately as "Mel," passed away on April 12, 2025, at the age of 72, in Danville, Indiana, surrounded by her loving husband Allan. She was born on July 7, 1952, in Indianapolis, Indiana, and lived a life defined by her deep love for family, humor, and passion for food.
A proud graduate of Southport High School, Class of 1971, Mel went on to forge a remarkable career as a Food Service Director for Valle Vista Hospital in Greenwood, Indiana. Mel's strong personality shone through in every aspect of her life, characterized by her loyalty, dry humor, and caring nature. She had an innate ability to make those around her laugh, ensuring that every gathering was filled with warmth and joy.
Melinda's interests extended beyond her professional life; she had a keen love for cooking, which complemented her adventurous spirit in trying new restaurants and foods. She enjoyed reading, listening to music, and browsing the internet. Long car rides were a special pastime, where she often found joy in the simple pleasures of life, exploring new places and flavors along the way.
One of her greatest joys and proudest accomplishments was raising her son, Devon Huerta, whom she loved deeply. Mel's family extended to include her cherished husband Allan, with whom she shared 19 wonderful years. She is also survived by her beloved nieces Karolee McDonald, Kristie Foreman, and Karla Finley, along with their families, including 16 great-nieces and nephews, 34 great-great-nieces and nephews, and 4 great-great-great-nieces and nephews.
Melinda was preceded in death by her parents, Chauncey and Francis (Coogan) Gooding, and a sister, Judy Chilton Henry. The memories she created and the love she shared will always be cherished by those who knew her.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Melinda's life will take place on April 26, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a memorial service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Newcomer Funeral Home located at 925 E Hanna Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46227.
As we remember Melinda Rae Greene, we honor a woman whose strength, humor, and loving spirit touched the lives of many. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
