A Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Melinda Harmon Palmer, 58, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Stone Ridge Baptist Church. Dr. Brett Self will officiate. A private burial will be held at Weogufka Second Baptist Church Cemetery.
Brethren, today we gather not in the shadow of sorrow, but in the light of cherished memories as we celebrate the homegoing of a virtuous woman, Melinda Harmon Palmer. Born on the thirteenth day of August in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and sixty-five, in the vibrant city of Atlanta, Georgia, Melinda was a beacon of love and faith until her peaceful passing on the fourteenth day of January, twenty-four, in Birmingham, Alabama.
Melinda, known affectionately as the heart of her family, is survived by a lineage of love: her devoted husband Mel Palmer of Alexander City, Alabama; her sons, Matthew Palmer and his wife Janet of Weogufka, Alabama, and Myles Palmer and his wife Carly of Alexander City, Alabama. She was the proud grandmother to Jack Palmer, whose youthful exuberance brought her immeasurable joy. Her nurturing spirit is also carried on by her dear mother, Evelyn Varner, her sister, Melanie Kervin, her nephew Chase Kervin and his wife Laken, her nieces Tinsley and Emberly Kervin, and her nephew John Blue. Melinda's extended family of affection includes father-in-law and mother-in-law, Melvin and Linda Palmer, along with special friends Jeff and Vanessa Green, and nephews Chad Green with his wife Sarah Beth, and Chase Green with his wife Janon. She was greeted in Heaven by her father, Jack Harmon, and her sister-in-law, Michelle Palmer, who preceded her in glory.
An exemplar of academic excellence, Melinda was valedictorian of Weogufka High School's Class of 1983. Her passion for nurturing others led her to pursue a Nursing Degree from Alexander City Junior College, now known as Central Alabama Community College. Melinda's professional life was marked by her compassionate service as a Registered Nurse and her meticulous care in Medical Billing. Her work was not just a job, it was a ministry of healing and comfort.
Melinda was a woman of profound faith, a cornerstone of the Stone Ridge Baptist Church community. Her Sundays were filled with joy, her voice a sweet amen in the chorus of worship. She was a Prayer Warrior like no other, her intercessions a testament to her unwavering belief in the power of the Lord. Her love for her family was boundless, her home an oasis of hospitality, where every soul was welcomed with open arms and a warm, loving heart. Melinda also had a great love for her sorority sisters in Beta Sigma Phi - Xi Xi Chapter.
This extraordinary woman, an amazing cook, nourished not just the bodies but the souls of all who were blessed to taste her chicken and dumplings, and her mac and cheese was a comforting balm to many. Melinda's spirit was as serene as a pontoon ride on the lake and as joyful as a trip to the beach. In times of trouble, her steadfast affirmation that "It's going to be okay" was the balm that soothed many a troubled heart.
Melinda was the embodiment of thoughtfulness; her every action was a reflection of her faith-filled, loving nature. To know her was to know a glimpse of Heaven's grace. She was the hands and feet of Jesus in this world, and her legacy is one of love, service, and devotion.
Let us find solace in knowing that Melinda Harmon Palmer has been called to that glorious shore, where Sundays never end, and the Lord's face shines forevermore. She has fought the good fight, she has finished the race, she has kept the faith. Now, there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give her on that day.
As we bid farewell to our beloved Melinda, let us carry forward the light of her life in our hearts, illuminating our paths with her enduring love and grace. Amen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Stone Ridge Baptist Church and designated for the Playground Fund, 611 Airport Road, Alexander City, AL 35010.

I was honor to be her pastor for several years. My memory of Melinda is that she always had a smile that glows in any situation. That is because she had a wonderful relationship with her Lord. She was such a blessing to be around. I send my condolences, love and prayers to Mel and the family. May the Lord wrap His loving arms around each of you.
