Melissa Rose Bloodgood (1983-2025)

Melissa Rose Bloodgood, 41 of Independence, Virginia, passed away from cancer on May 23, 2025.

Melissa was preceded in death by her father, John Bloodgood, and brother-in-law Jeff Sier. Melissa is survived by her loving husband Brian Runkles, and her two children, Emily and Ethan Bloodgood. Melissa is also survived by her mother, Connie Bloodgood, and mother-in-law, Beaver (Idonia) Sier; siblings Michele Maldonado, Michael Bloodgood, and Johann Beall; nieces and nephews Anthony Davidson, Amber Sier, Tyler Bloodgood, Allison Maldonado, Noah Beall, Dylan Beall, and Gabrielle Bloodgood. Melissa also leaves behind her work family at Aunt Bea's- her BFF Crissy, Mckenna, Peggy, Vada, Naeshon, and Kenneth- Melissa loved them all.

Melissa was the kind of person who could make you laugh even when you didn't want to. Whether it was her love for an inappropriate joke or that knowing smile that made you wonder if she already knew the punchline, Melissa had a gift for lighting up a room and making you feel like you matter. Empathy ran through her like electricity, connecting her to people in a deep and effortless way. She was fiercely loyal, a steadfast defender of her people, and if you were lucky enough to be counted among them, you knew what it felt like to have someone truly in your corner.

Though she has left us far too soon, Melissa would want us to remember her with laughter. So, in her honor, fill in the blanks: "Melissa was ____ (adjective) and always ____ (verb) her way through life with a ____ (silly noun) in one hand and a ____ (drink) in the other." Melissa wouldn't want a tear-soaked goodbye-just a well-placed joke, a ridiculous story, and maybe one last Mad Lib. We love you, Melissa. You left us better than you found us.
