Raven Choate Robinson Funeral HomeWith profound sadness, we announce the passing of Melissa Ann Charles, who lost her fierce and courageous battle with cancer on November 6, 2025. Melissa was born on July 22, 1969, the daughter of Barbara Charles and the late John Charles of Swayzee.
Melissa is survived by her beloved daughter Madison (Josiah) Staton and her mother Barbara Charles. She was a devoted life partner to Brent Grist. A cherished sister to Shelly (Brent) Newman, and a loving aunt to Mackenzie and Keaton Newman. She also held close in her heart her Aunt Connie (Bill) Hensley and Uncle Danny (Leotha) Lowe.
Her greatest joy in life was being Mimi to her three adored grandchildren: Zoey, Noah, and Demi Staton. They were her heart and the light she carried with her.
Melissa graduated from Oak Hill High School and Indiana Business College and spent many dedicated years with Osterman and Kay Jewelers, where she built lasting friendships and brightened the days of so many. She had a gift for listening, for being fully present, and for celebrating the people she loved. Time spent at her camper by the lake was her solace and her joy, where life felt peaceful and full.
Even in passing, Missy continued to give of herself. Through the Indiana Donor Network, she gave the gift of sight to two others-allowing her legacy of care and compassion to live on in the most profound way.
She was special. Truly special. Kind, steady, loyal, and filled with quiet strength. Melissa was deeply loved by her family—and we will endure a lifetime of missing her for the privilege of having loved her.
Go rest high on that mountain, our beautiful, beloved Miss
