Melissa Darwish Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Oakley-Hammond Funeral Home on Mar. 31, 2023.
In Loving Memory of Melissa Kay (Bommer) Darwish
October 4, 1978 - December 21, 2022
Our beloved Melissa Kay Darwish left us suddenly on December 21, 2022. She leaves behind a loving family and dear friends who will miss her terribly. Melissa loved crafts and hobbies, animals, and all activities her busy children were involved in. Her boundless energy and enthusiasm for the Lawrence North High School Marching Band as a guard-mom for both Jaden and Violet was infectious. Her great enthusiasm was greatly appreciated by students, parents, and staff. She often traveled with the band to out-of-town competitions. She was also very involved in Girl Scout activities for both daughters. She always had a positive attitude, she was always smiling, and she was everybody's friend.
Melissa (age 44) was born October 4, 1978 to Sandra K. (Bartlett) Check and Timothy J. Bommer in Jackson, Wyoming and graduated from Jackson Hole High School in 1997. During her time in Jackson, she was active in 4-H programs and Girl Scouts. After graduation, Melissa attended Central Wyoming College and later attended MAC Academy in Hollywood. She later moved to Indianapolis where she became a dog groomer at Petco and then at Hair of the Dog Salon in Carmel, Indiana, where she was employed until her passing.
Melissa is survived by her husband Abdul and daughters, Jaden and Violet. She is also survived by her brothers, Bret Bommer and wife Keeley (Etna, Wyoming); Kevin Bommer and wife Gabriella (Westminster, Colorado); half-sister Dawn Varner and husband Richard (Omaha, Nebraska); and her mother, Sandra Check (Hudson, Florida) and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and 2 great-nieces. Melissa was preceded in death by her father, Timothy Bommer. There will be a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Oakley-Hammond Funeral Home, 5342 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46219 with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. until service time.
