Melissa Ann Doreson of
Floral Park, NY sadly left us on December 10, 2025, at the age of 46. Melissa was born and raised in Bronx, NY to Vito Marcone & Denise Raniolo and was the eldest of their two daughters.
Melissa was a Pace University graduate with a degree in business administration & marketing and spent most of her professional career excelling in the field of communications, editing & publishing and loved what she did. She enjoyed working for Elegance Health and was grateful to her colleagues for their support especially over these last difficult months. Melissa was a "people person" and had an amazing memory for names, faces and details of all the people she met. She was also the one you called to give any of your literary works or emails a discerning eye, before sending.
Melissa grew up very close to her devoted mother Denise, who made sure there was always a lot of love and laughter in their home. Melissa and her sister, Sister Maria Francesca (Margarita) both inherited their incredible sense of humor and quick wit from both of their parents. Side-splitting laughter was always a given at birthdays, holidays, and family functions. Melissa and her sister grew up sharing a small bedroom together. One would think as adults, they'd have welcomed a little space from each other. But no, instead, they chose to share an apartment together in their early adult life as well. The bond and love they had as sisters was always very special and this past year's challenges brought them even closer. Among many other things, a shared love of the NY Yankees bonded Mel to her sister and their father, Vito. They attended countless games together over the years and could always be found watching games at home talking and texting the play-by-play with each other.
Despite being a true Yankee fan, Melissa fell in love with a "die-hard" Mets fan. Her husband, Scott was the love of her life and best friend. They enjoyed the playful Yankee/Met rivalry and supported each other's teams and supported each other in life. Melissa and Scott were truly best friends. Though each had many friends, they were each other's confidants, true companions, and true loves. They enjoyed trips together, concerts, sporting events and loved spending time with both their families. Mel loved children and had a special fondness for her nieces, Godson, and all her "little cousins". She loved being "Aunt Mel" and was always excited while Christmas and birthday shopping for all of them. Mel & Scott took a huge step in their marriage and added the sweet and furry Bossy (Bossy-Boss as Mel lovingly called him) to their family. That furry companion gave Mel a lot of love and purpose when she lost her beloved Scott, far too soon in 2022. She was also extremely grateful to her family and friends (both old and newfound) that were truly a lifeline to her while grieving the loss of Scott.
Melissa loved to travel and take trips with her sister, cousins, friends, and of course, Scott. She loved to go out dancing (especially to hip-hop and "free style" music) and spend quality time with her family members (ALL OF THEM), pool and waterparks with her Godson, Sunday dinners with her Mom, John and Sister, and get-togethers with her lifelong, loyal friends from "the neighborhood."
Melissa was very much defined by her Catholic faith and was a devoted servant of God her entire life. This faith was both tested and strengthened during recent years while grieving her beloved Scotty and during her battle with cancer. While it was difficult for those who loved her to watch her endure these struggles and suffering, it was also inspiring to witness her true belief in Jesus' love for her and trusting in His plan for her life. She prayed for healing, knowing it may not be the kind we hoped and prayed for to keep her here with us a little longer. Even in her most difficult moments, she did not turn away from God. She just asked for His mercy and prayed for the strength and will to surrender.
This incredible strength and faith are why we are certain she now resides peacefully and joyfully with our Lord and savior and has been reunited with her beloved husband Scott Doreson, her loving father Vito A. Marcone, both of her grandmothers, and both of her grandfathers. Still, those left behind cannot help but feel an intense and severe loss. She will be deeply missed by her loving mother and stepfather, Denise and John Raniolo, her devoted sister, Margarita Marcone (Sister Maria Francesca), her aunts, uncles, cousins, Godson, and friends.
