Melissa S. Ellwanger

Glenville- Melissa S. Ellwanger, 53 of Glenville passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at her residence.
Born on December 18, 1971, in Jamestown, NY, she was the daughter of Chester "Chet" Plymel and the late Linda (nee: Weise) Plymel.
A proud graduate of Maple Grove High School's class of 1990, Melissa's passion for design and structure led her to pursue and achieve a Bachelor's Degree from NYIT, Class of 1994. Her academic accomplishments were only the beginning of what would become a distinguished 19-year career with Synthesis Architects LLP. There, Melissa's keen eye for detail and her unwavering commitment to excellence left an indelible mark on the landscapes she helped shape and the hearts of those she worked with.
Melissa's professional achievements were paralleled by a rich personal life. She embraced the role of grandmother; her granddaughters were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Melissa's love for her family extended to the many activities she supported them in, from football and lacrosse to dance, where she was not just a mom but a cheerleader for all.
An adventurer at heart, Melissa found joy in exploring the world through travel and cuisine. She was an avid cruiser, embarking on multiple voyages each year, each trip an opportunity to discover new horizons and indulge in the diverse cultures of food that she so loved. When not at sea, she could be found camping at her favorite campground. Melissa's interests were as varied as they were passionate. She was an avid reader. Her meticulous nature was not just evident in her professional life but in every aspect of her personal endeavors. Melissa also had a special love for owls and was often found on her front porch, listening for their calls in the quiet of the evening.
In addition to her father, Melissa is survived by her husand of 32 years, Keith Ellwanger; daughter, Amanda Cantamessa (James); son, Tyler Ellwanger (Ashley Cloud); granddaughters, Aurora and Faelyn Cantamessa; sister, Michelle Dimon (Craig) and her nieces.
Calling hours will be held from 3pm to 6pm on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville with a funeral service to immediately follow.
Burial will take place privately.
