Melissa Glover Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brownlie & Maxwell Funeral Service & Crematory on Sep. 12, 2024.
Melissa Ann Glover April 4, 1974 – September 5, 2024
Melissa lost her struggle with substance abuse on September 5 and is finally at peace. For over a decade, she waged a battle that was indescribable for her, her family and friends. At first, her family battled by her side and grieved the loss of her so many times as we watched her slip away until her life was taken over with drug addiction. We mourned the change in her character, her values and her personality and there are so many questions about how and why this happened that will never be known. We do know that she contributed much to this world before she slipped away.
Melissa was born in Melbourne, Florida on April 4, 1974. She was active, happy and caring from the very beginning. When Joseph arrived, she was delighted to have a brother to play with, care for and often tease. Swimming, singing, dancing, cheering, and doing gymnastics brought many childhood friends into her life, but her real passion was playing soccer. She was a competitive defender, playing all the way up to college level and known for her effective slide tackle, for which her teammates named her "Brute." As a teen, she found joy in participating in service trips, which took her to Dominica, Kenya, and Botswana.
Her children, Caleb and Carly, were the absolute pride and joy of her life and she gave them love and strong roots, which enabled them to be kind, independent people. She was very engaged in their upbringing early on and had lots of fun and adventures with them. Unfortunately, she missed much of their teen years as she allowed herself to fall deeper into her addiction.
As a graduate from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1999, she began her career as a compassionate nurse spanning several years. Not only did she have patients express how caring she was, but she was honored with the "Eyes On Award" for her floor in 2013. This award given at Holmes Regional Medical Center is "an annual recognition program allowing RNs to recognize their peers, who best exemplify team work, leadership and exceptional clinical skills that they share through preceptoring and mentoring, and above all, delivering outstanding patient care." Less than a year later, she resigned from her position so that she could put all her energy into dealing with her substance abuse issue, which she realized was getting out of control.
We were all pulling for her to overcome her challenges and return to the vibrant person that she was, but we knew it was her personal journey. Although she almost won the fight a few times, she was unable to shake the demons. We will remember the good memories we have of her and are relieved that she is free from her pain and suffering.
Melissa is predeceased by her grandparents Joe and Evelyn Glover, Harry and Rachel Vincent and her father Joe Glover III.
She leaves behind her children Caleb and Carly; grandson Silas; her brother Joseph; her mother Barbara Glover and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 2 pm at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Melbourne, where she and her children were baptized and confirmed.
Donations in her memory may be made to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Melbourne, Florida or to Daily Bread, Melbourne, Florida: Holy Trinity Episcopal Church Daily Bread

Barbara & Joseph,
I am so sorry to hear about Melissa. I know she struggled so in her final years. But I remember her as a bouncing, grinning girl when we would come to Florida to visit. Praying for you and her children at this time.

I first met Melissa when she started working on the floor where I worked.
I remember she was a really good person who cared about her patients.
We used to go to lunch together, I always knew she'd have my back if I needed to go on break. She was always there for me.
She had the best sense of humor, she could make me laugh. We used to chase each other around the break room with water in 60 cc syringes, those were our squirt guns.
Melissa taught me that no matter how strong we think we are, we all need help. We are all vulnerable, every single one.

Barbara, what a beautiful story you´ve written about Melissa. Thank you for sharing the joys and the difficulties of her life. Melissa on the soccer field was so fun to watch because she was fearless! Sending a hug. Ann Goodpasture
