Melissa L. McDonald, passed away on April 24, 2025, in her hometown of Jeffersonville, Indiana. She was born on January 17, 1974, in Jeffersonville, where she spent her life surrounded by family friends who cherished her warm spirit and dedication to those she loved.
Melissa's greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren, Sadie, Omar, and DeShawn. They were the light of her life, and her world revolved around them. Her passion for family was reflected in her love for cooking and the treasured moments she spent nurturing her loved ones. Melissa found fulfillment in the simple joys, whether it was gathering around the dinner table or attending church, where her faith played a central role in her life.
She is survived by her loving grandchildren, as well as her sister, Candace McDonald; her aunts, Kaye McDonald, Sarah Thieneman, Janet McDonald, and Mary L. McDonald; her uncles, Warren Scott McDonald and David McDonald; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom will carry her memory in their hearts.
Melissa's passing is mourned deeply by her family and friends who knew her as a compassionate soul with an unwavering love for those around her. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia L. McDonald; her spouse, Michael Smith; her father, Paul McDonald; her mother, Sherry McDonald; and her sister, Samantha McDonald, who now welcome her into the eternal embrace of love.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN 47150. This will be followed by a memorial service beginning at 1:00 PM at the same location. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of Melissa's life, reflecting on the joy she brought into their lives.
