Melissa Spencer Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 23, 2022.
Melissa Ann Spencer, 54, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on November 21, 2022. She was born in Orlando, FL, on October 28, 1968, to William V. Cobb, Jr. and Nina M. Campbell. Melissa graduated from Middleburg High School in 1986, where she played on the school's women's football team.
She married LT Geoffrey W. Spencer, a navy helicopter pilot, on June 15, 2002, in St. Augustine, FL.
Melissa worked for Allstate Benefits in Jacksonville for over 20 years after several years at National Financial Resources.
Melissa's passions and hobbies included her family, Jacksonville Jaguars and Georgia Bulldog football, Star Wars, Star Trek, Harry Potter, theme parks such as Disney and Universal, dragons including a number of tattoos, boating and jet skiing, riding ATVs, camping, and cake decorating. She was a prolific reader. Her favorite authors included Matthew Reilly, Andy McDermott, and Jeremy Robinson.
From the time Melissa was diagnosed with brain cancer she maintained a positive attitude, worrying more about her family than herself. She valiantly fought the cancer until the very end. Melissa, while undergoing her own treatments, encouraged other brain cancer patients through Facebook forums and one of the medical product companies as an ambassador.
She is survived by her loving husband, Geoff, three exceptional children, William M. Brady, a retired navy chief, Kayla L. Hotaling, a registered nurse, and James D. Spencer, a computer engineering student at Florida State University, and five grandchildren. She is also survived by her parents and sister, Jennifer Belisario, half-brothers, Michael Cobb and Ryan Cobb, and uncle and aunt, Terry and Diane Cobb.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Waves of Gray Brain Cancer Awareness Organization in Melissa's name. The donation page is Waves of Gray – Melissa Spencer https://runsignup.com/MelissaSpencer.
