On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, Melissa Taverney (Lego), loving wife, mother, sister, and friend passed away from Pneumonia after a short illness.
Melissa was born on December 1, 1978, and grew up in Fayetteville, WV. She graduated from Fayetteville High School and later Concord University. She was raised by her amazing Grandma, Daisy Lego, who instilled kindness, respect, integrity, and the principle that family is everything.
Melissa's love transformed the lives of everyone she encountered and she brought beauty to everything she touched. She was an honest person and did not hold back her opinion, having the knack for "telling it like it is." She told the truth even if it wasn't something you wanted to hear. If you ever needed her, she was there, no questions asked, ever.
Melissa loved her family, her friends, her career, but most importantly she loved being Mom to Jean-Michael and Liam, and bonus Mom to Nature and Iris.
Melissa is preceded in death by her grandfather, Charles E. Lego; grandmother, Daisy D. Lego; and her father, Larry W. Lego.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 15 years, Richard Taverney; sons, Jean Michael Gagne and Liam Taverney; stepson, Nature Taverney; and stepdaughter, Iris Taverney; brothers, Christopher W. Lego and Brian D. Lego; sister, Lara M. Miler; and also, her nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends.
A memorial service will be held at High Lawn Funeral Home on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to High Lawn Memorial Park.

Shocking to hear and my heart goes out to the family. We did not keep in touch after high school however, I think of Melissa fondly and how she greeted me with a smile every time we saw each other. My condolences to all who loved her, such a sweet soul.
