Melissa Dawn Wheeler, 59, of Amherst, Virginia went home to Glory to reside with our Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, November 2, 2025.
Melissa was born on June 22, 1966, to the late Homer Haywood Wheeler and Lula Maddox Wheeler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Danny Lee Wheeler. Maternal grandparents Jimmy and Mary Maddox and paternal grandparents Otha Wheeler and Mary Virginia Wheeler.
She was known for her devout faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Melissa loved her daughter Brooke; she was the light of her life. She loved dancing, singing and music as well as spending time with family. She served clients over the years as personal care aide. Melissa also loved her fur babies Shadow, and Little Bit. We know she was greeted at the rainbow bridge by Red Man and Rebel.
Melissa is survived by her daughter, Megan Brooke Wheeler; sisters June Wheeler Mays (Carroll) and Debbie Wheeler Butler (JW); brothers Homer Edward Wheeler (Carolyn) and Homer Haywood Wheeler aka Little Haywood. Nieces; Christal Mays Viar, Sarah Naomi Wheeler, Suzanne Barker Wheeler Kelly, Christy Wheeler Carr. Nephews Wendall Wheeler, Randall Wheeler, Travis Mays, and Garrett Butler. Melissa is also survived by several great nieces and nephews that loved her dearly.
A service honoring Melissa's life will be held at 3:00 p.m., at Clifford Baptist Church on Saturday, November 15, 2025. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service.
The family would like to extend gratitude to the ICU staff of Lynchburg General Hospital specifically her Nurse Emily and physician Dr. Khoury.
Reverend Jeffery Campbell, Reverend Dr. Michael Fitzgerald and Reverend Clyde Mawyer will be officiating.
