ALBANY - Mitzi Whelan, 45, went home to God on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at St Peter's Hospital, after a short illness. She is survived by her parents, Jim and Maggie Whelan; siblings, Colleen Garbarini, James (Rebecca) Whelan, Dan Whelan, Shannon Whelan, Matthew (Meghan) Whelan and Julie Whelan; many nieces and nephews; one great-niece and one great-nephew.
Mitzi was a resident of the Catholic Charities Warren House and enjoyed many fun times with her sister, Margaret Mary; and staff. She also attended a day program at the Center for Disability Services Smith Center. She was well liked by many and will be remembered for her winning smile and contagious laugh. Mitzi taught those who knew her the value of all kinds of music and musical instruments. Her family will always think of her as the one who gave "the best hugs in the world."
A gathering of family and friends will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., on July 16, 2025, at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, N.Y. 12205, with a Memorial service at 7:00 p.m. Graveside service will be held Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 10 a.m., St. Joseph's Cemetery, 100 Kings Rd., Schenectady, N.Y.
