Melva Elzer

Melva Nona (Lange) Elzer, 84, of Wood Dale, IL, passed away unexpectedly at home on October 9, 2024. She was born June 18, 1940, to Mabel (Knuth) and Leo Lange of rural Jim Falls, WI. They later moved to Fall Creek, WI. Melva attended area schools and graduated from Fall Creek High School in 1958. She was a dedicated employee of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for 44 years. Melva married Robert Elzer in 1976, and they remained longtime residents of Wood Dale thereafter.

In earlier times, Melva enjoyed tent camping in Hatfield, WI in any kind of weather. It was a chance to spend quality time with family, especially her nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed travel, including many Las Vegas trips with coworkers and friends and visits back home for class reunions. Melva particularly enjoyed the annual fishing trips to Alaska with her husband Bob. She always appreciated opportunities to connect with immediate family, extended family, and friends. Melva was thoughtful, generous, and kind. She loved and cared about so many people, as they did in return. Hers was a life well lived.

Melva is preceded in death by her parents and sister Gloria Comstock (Merrillan, WI). She is survived by her husband Bob; sister Janet Karker (Eau Claire, WI); stepsons Chris and Bob; four step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild, and multiple nieces and nephews.

The family is grateful for the help and concern extended by friends and neighbors. Arrangements are being made by Geils Funeral Home of Wood Dale (630-766-3232). A memorial service will be held at a later date.
