Robert Elzer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Silverton Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Service - Toms River on Aug. 19, 2023.
Robert "Bob" L. Elzer, 80, of Manchester, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on August 17,
2023.
Bob was born July 6, 1943, in Staten Island, New York to Edith Margaret Elzer, where he grew
up with his sister Diane E. Wheeler and brother John Earling Elzer.
Bob was known for so many amazing qualities and quirks. One that his sister remembers
fondly is when he would save his spare change so that he could take her to play skee-ball in
Bayonne, New Jersey. He was also an awesome mechanic, being said to be able to diagnose a
vehicle by ear and opening his own Auto Repair and Mobil gas station with his brother in
Staten Island, New York.
At the young age of 21, Bob served his country proudly, entering the Army, August 26,1964. He
served in Vietnam 1 year, 5 months, and 22 days, and was honorably discharged on August 25,
1970. Bob received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two
campaign stars, The Good Conduct Medal, The Army Commendation Medal in addition to The
Vietnam Campaign Medal with device.
Bob was said to be an "amazing Poppy", never forgetting a birthday, sending cards to
celebrate, and driving to visit his children when he could.
Surviving a heart attack in his mid 30's, and three aneurysms and a stroke in his 40's didn't
slow Bob down. Even though he was left with expressive aphasia and unable to have a full
conversation, he still lead a full life continuing to drive himself for lottery tickets and Tiparillo
cigars.
The last 20 years Bob enjoyed his life living with his sister Diane. His favorite pastime was
completing 1000 piece puzzles and solving word searches.
Bob was a simple man who was just happy to shuffle along, watch NASCAR racing, and
westerns on TV. He never really needed or wanted for much.
Bob is survived by his sister Diane E. Wheeler. His son Jeffrey Elzer. His son-in-law Gregory
Gearo. His grandchildren Michele Nimbley, Jessica Medicis, Kenneth Elzer and Kasey Elzer. His
great-grandchildren Danielle, Dominick, Amelia, Anthony, and Paul. His niece and nephew
Laura Llaneta and William (Lisa) Wheeler, and many great nieces and nephews.
Bob is predeceased by his grandmother Anna Braathen. His mother Edith Margaret Elzer. His
brother John Earling Elzer. His children Kathlyn Anna Nimbley and Kenneth Elzer. His nephew
Jerome Llaneta.
Service and final resting place will be held on August 24th, at 10:30am at BG William C. Doyle
Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08562.
