Melva Irion Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 16, 2025.
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of a remarkable woman, Melva Irene Irion, who left this world on March 12, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on May 4, 1935, in Evansville, Indiana, to Melvin and Lucille Skeels, Melva was a loving and spirited soul who brought joy to everyone she encountered.
Melva was, at her core, a woman of many talents and a heart full of generosity. As an office manager at Steven A. Wilson Builders before her retirement, Melva's creativity and hard work were evident in everything she did. Melva was an ardent lover of life, always ready to take on a new adventure. She was a diligent gardener, a lover of music and dance, an avid card player, often engaging in spirited games of euchre. Melva found immense joy in cooking and baking, often creating meals that gathered her family around the table in love and laughter. She was also a founding member of Saint Mark's United Methodist Church in Carmel, a dedicated member of her church choir, and in her seasoned years was a member of Cicero United Methodist Church. Her love for travel took her to many places, but she held a special place in her heart for anywhere with a beach, especially Dauphin Island, Alabama.
Melva was a beacon of love and generosity, leaving a significant impact on everyone she met. For Melva, happiness was found in her family-the people who mattered most to her. She leaves behind her beloved sons, Kevin and Kenneth Phelps, her cherished grandsons, Jordan and Brandon (Alyssa) Phelps, and treasured niece Charlene (Joe) Salpietra. Melva is preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Lucille Skeels, and her brother, Charles Skeels.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm at Hartley Funeral Homes, Cicero, located at 209 West Jackson Street, Cicero, Indiana. The funeral service will follow at the same venue at 2:00 pm with Mark Knapp officiating. A graveside to follow at Carey Cemetery.
We invite you to celebrate this extraordinary woman's life by sharing your favorite memories, stories, and photographs on her memorial page. Melva's life was a testament to the power of love, generosity, and spirit, and her legacy will continue to inspire us all.

Charlene Salpietra

March 17, 2025

I am deeply heartbroken by the loss of my beloved Aunt Melva (My Daddy's sister). She was not just family; she was a guiding light in my life, a source of strength, love, and wisdom. Her presence made every moment feel brighter, and her kindness knew no bounds. She had this incredible way of making you feel seen, heard, and valued, no matter what. I´ll forever cherish the countless memories we shared: the laughs and giggling, the vacations in Dauphin Island, Alabama, the dancing, the great meals and holiday treasures, the trips down memory lane through daily phone calls, and the support and prayers she always gave so freely.

It´s impossible to put into words just how much she meant to me, but I will carry her spirit with me always. She taught me the importance of love, resilience, and living fully. I know she´ll continue to inspire me, guiding me even though she´s no longer physically here. I feel so grateful for every moment I had with her. Her love will forever be a part of me, and I will miss her more than I can express. Celebrate in peace and laughter with our family that went before you my precious Aunt Melva. You will always be in my heart.
