Ruby Blake

Ruby Elizabeth Blake, a spirited woman known for her radiant zest for life, her love for Elvis and the beach, and her tender devotion to family, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025. Born February 9, 1933, in Bloomington, Indiana, Ruby loved being outdoors and found great joy in her travels to warmer climates, particularly Florida and Myrtle Beach. A beloved figure in her community, she was blessed with a wide circle of friends across the U.S., with whom she enjoyed monthly gatherings over a good meal.
Ruby's life was characterized by her capacity to nurture and her exceptional work ethic. She spent many years serving meals with a smile as a cafeteria worker at Noblesville Schools after retiring from Western Electric/AT&T. Her love for people and her innate ability to bring cheer wherever she went led her to an enjoyable post-retirement stint at Disney, where she worked for ten years in the gift shop. Ruby's late husbands, Chet and Bob, proudly served in the United States Navy, and Ruby was a dedicated member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Cicero American Legion and was a steward with the IBEW. Her rocking chair on the front porch or immersed in a western novel was her favorite retreat in her later years.
Ruby was blessed with a large and loving family. She is survived by her daughters, Vickie (Steve) Benefiel and Karen Evans; her grandchildren, Daniel (Dawn) Benefiel, Chris Thompson, Heather (Brian) Baden; her great-grandchildren, Jacob Benefiel, Audrey Benefiel, Jozee Baden, Ryan Thompson, and Aleaha Trump; her sister, Philanna Polk; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto Hughes and Hazel Mundy; her husbands, Chester Evans and Robert Blake; and her sisters, Virginia Hughes, Barb Babb, and Sharron Mayfield.
Visitation for Ruby will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 12:00 pm at Hartley-Dunnichay Funeral Home, 209 West Jackson Street, Cicero, Indiana, 46034. The funeral service will follow visitation and take place at 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
