Melvin Junior Avis

Melvin "Junior" Avis, 75, of Danese, WV passed away peacefully in his home following a long illness on Friday, May 30, 2025.
Junior was born October 8, 1949 in Mt. Hope, WV, and raised in Danese, WV. He attended Meadow Bridge High School and spent most of his life working in the timber and mechanic industry. He married his wife, Shirley, in 1968, winning her heart by bringing her handpicked lilacs. Together, they raised three beloved sons. He was a man of strong will, and lived life on his own terms. He found joy in the outdoors- especially hunting, fishing, and sharing stories over a Milwaukee's Best. He loved his grandchildren and cherished time spent with them. His presence will be remembered by all who knew him.
Junior is survived by his wife, Shirley Avis of Danese; three sons, Melvin (Helen) Avis of Scarboro, George (Sarah) Avis of Danese, James (Carie) Avis of Danese; five grandchildren, Zachary (Emmalea) Avis of Prosperty, Erik (Katarina) Avis of Augusta, GA, Jacob Avis of Martinsburg, Amber (Dylan) Adkins of Hinton, Kayden Avis of Danese; 8 great-grandchildren, Elijah, Raymond, Hazel, Teagan, Alexis, Kash, Levi, and AJ; siblings, Mary (Cotton) Berry-Critchley, Meredith (Arnold) Avis-Irvin, Georgia (Dale) Avis-Siphers, Earnest (Gale) Avis; sister-in-law, Lisa Lilly-Avis; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George Ernest Avis and Erdine Auttie Berry; brother, Jimmy Avis; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Wallace & Wallace, Rainelle at 2:00 p.m.. Burial will follow at Ben White Lower Cemetery at Highland Mountain in Raleigh County. Visitation will be from 1:oo p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Funeral Home.
